Expiration dates vary by publisher. While most eBook titles do not expire, some may after 12 months. Details for your particular eBook can be found on your card or online during the activation process.
You may return a non-activated eBook card to the bookstore where you originally purchased it (subject to the bookstore's return policy). Once an eBook has been activated online, it is no longer returnable.

A little background on what we mean when we say “everything.”

First, Cengage Unlimited is for post-secondary students in the U.S. That means some of our content, such as for K-12, international, or library markets, is not included. Select high school dual enrollment programs are included.

Plus, there are some U.S. post-secondary products which use non-Cengage platforms or content, and we don’t have the rights to include those with Cengage Unlimited. However, many of these third-party products will be available for an additional fee.

Finally, there are a small number of products that cannot be digitized and are not included. Products not included in Cengage Unlimited include:
  • Milady (except Massage, which is included in Cengage Unlimited)
  • ed2go
  • Place U
  • Pathbrite (except where integrated into MindTap)
  • OpenNow (will be available in Cengage Unlimited starting January 2019. However, Extended Access (a free pilot) is available through the end of 2018)
  • Competency Tracker (will be available in Cengage Unlimited starting January 2019)
  • Learning Objects
  • 3rd party tools (like Harris Care Tracker)
  • WebAssign with 3rd party content from non-CL sources. However, WebAssign with OpenStax is included (print rental not available from Cengage for OpenStax texts)
  • Non-digital bundle components like CDs or DVDs, or print items like workbooks that we do not have the right to digitize

Overall, more than 22,000 of our products are available through Cengage Unlimited—and this number continues to grow!

Charge textbooks and supplies to your student account

It's easier to pay off everything when it is all in one place - tuition, textbooks, parking permit, etc - in one lump sum or in smaller monthly payments. You can even use your financial aid to help pay it off.

For the current semester's charging dates, please see the Important Dates page. You can also call the Bookstore to check your eligibility in advance at 907-786-4759
  • Must have a Wolfcard and purchases must be made in person. The student charging his/her account must be present. Charging is available at the UAA main campus bookstore. Charging is not available at branch campuses.
  • Account must be in good standing (paid in full, no financial holds). All charges from previous semesters must be paid off. Current semester charges are OK.
  • Must be a UAA student: : You must be registered with UAA. UAF or UAS students don't qualify.
  • Must be registered for 1+ credits at any of the following campuses: Anchorage, Kenai Peninsula College, Prince William Sound College, Mat Su College, or Kodiak College.
  • Any exceptions to these rules must be pre-approved by Accounting Services: 907-786-1440

The Bookstore receives updated eligibility lists from Accounting Services several times a week. If you have only recently paid off old bills or registered for classes, it may take 1-2 days before you are able to charge to your account.

If your application to UAA hasn't finished processing or you haven't turned in all of the necessary paperwork (transcripts, GED certification, etc.) you will need to contact Accounting Services at 907-786-1440 to request an exception to the policy and be allowed to charge to your account.

Please see our Important Dates page for the ending of the charge period. Payment for any student account charges (including, but not limited to, textbooks, tuition, fees, and housing) is due by the payment deadline. Unpaid charges are subject to the same late fees as tuition, fees, and housing. Your first refund check may precede your bookstore charges, be sure to check your account prior to the payment deadline to be sure it is paid in full.
  • Come to the bookstore in person with your current, UAA ID card within the designated charging dates (see Bookstore home page for current semester's dates)

Day One Digital

Basic Information Questions

Day One Digital (D1D) is a new digital textbook delivery model. It gives you online access to your textbook on or before the first day of class, regardless of whether you have paid for it up front or not. The goal of the program is to reduce the cost of textbooks for students and ensure that every student has timely access to their course materials. Currently, not all classes are using Day One Digital.
Under this program, would shift from using printed course materials to digital materials in exchange for better pricing than they can find anywhere else. Every student will have access through Blackboard from the first day of classes. Your instructor will show you how to access the materials. Students must opt into the program if they wish to continue using the materials after the add/drop date. Opting in means students will receive heavily discounted prices (better than buying directly from the publisher) too.
There are several ways to find out. The UAA Bookstore’s website lists the course materials required for all UAA main campus classes. If your course is using Day One Digital (D1D), it will be listed there. The title of the required materials always starts with D1D. In addition, every student enrolled in a class using the Day One Digital program will receive emails from the Bookstore with more information about the materials including pricing, how to opt in, and how it all works. Because you must opt in to continue accessing the materials after add/drop, you’ll also get several reminder emails from the Bookstore before the end of add/drop.

Payment Questions

The price varies depending on the publisher and whether or not the instructor is using additional online content such as Connect, MyLabs, ALEKS or other access codes. In general, though, Day One Digital prices are lower than the cost of purchasing access directly from the publisher and average 50%-70% below the cost of printed texts with access.
Under this program, students would shift from using printed course materials to digital materials in exchange for better pricing than they can find anywhere else. Students do not have to opt into the program, but those who don't will need to source their books elsewhere. For those who opt in, their student accounts will be charged at the end of the add-drop period.
If, at the end of add/drop if you are still registered in the course and have opted in, then the fees for Day One Digital will be charged to your student account. How you pay it off is up to you, you can use financial aid, agency funding, payment plan, etc. To view the charges to your student account, please go to https://www.alaska.edu/uaonline/. Even if you don’t pay it off right away, you won’t lose access to the course materials. If you would prefer to pay a different way, you can always reach out to the Bookstore before the end of add/drop to make alternate arrangements.
Unless you have made arrangements in advance to pay for Day One Digital some way other than student account charges, you won't be able to pay off account charges at the Bookstore. Once the course materials are charged to your account, you can pay them off the same way you pay off anything that is charged to your account:
  • Pay with credit card by logging in to UAA Accounting Services for more information on how to pay your student account.

Accessing the Materials

Most content will be accessed directly through your course in Blackboard. Once you've registered you will also be able to access the materials directly from the publisher's website in case Blackboard is down. Your instructor sets everything up with the publisher, so they’ll be able to give you the best instructions for how to access the materials as it may vary a little depending on the publisher.
You will receive a welcome email from the Bookstore 2-3 weeks before the start of classes and again the first week of classes. It will contain a personalized link to your portal, which will include information about pricing as well as how to opt in or out of the program. If you can’t find that email, you can visit your portal and login with your UAA ID to get the same information along with the ability to opt in or out if you want.
We send all emails to your university email address. The first one usually goes out 2-3 weeks before the start of class or the day after you register if you register later than that. The opening emails have a subject of Important (current semester) Textbook Billing Information. We recommend checking your spam/junk folder first if you don't see it in your inbox. You can always reach out to us by email at uaa_book@uaa.alaska.edu to request that we resend it. Another option is to log into the Day One Digital Portal with your UAA ID number and you will be taken to your personal portal which lists the classes, course materials and pricing, and allows you to opt in or out.
No. You will not need to come to the Bookstore to pick up or pay for Day One Digital materials. However, not every class is using Day One Digital, so you may still need to come to the store to purchase course materials for other classes.
If your question wasn’t answered in this FAQ or by checking your course status, please call us at 907-786-4759 or email us at uaa_book@uaa.alaska.edu for further assistance.
